Calling All Shark-Lovers

30 Aug

Assembly Bill 376, which bans the trade of shark fins, will soon face a critical vote in the California State Senate, and it needs your help.  For the sake of the tens of millions of sharks that are slaughtered every year to make shark fin soup.  For the sake of the millions of people worldwide who rely upon the health of our oceans. Here’s how you can help:

If you live in California:

1) Using this handy tool, enter your zip code, and find out who your state senator is.

2) Dial his/her phone number.

3) Whether someone answers or its a voicemail, tell them your name, your zip code, and that you support Assembly Bill 376 without amendments.

4) Sign our Shark Pledge, which calls upon global leaders to act now to protect our sharks and preserve the health of our oceans.

5) Share this with your family and friends. Use Twitter, Facebook, or whatever platform you have, to spread the word.

If you live elsewhere in the world:

1) Sign our Shark Pledge, which calls upon global leaders to act now to protect our sharks and preserve the health of our oceans.

2) Share this with your family and friends in California. Use TwitterFacebook, or whatever platform you have, to spread the word.

A third of open-ocean shark species are already threatened with extinction.  We can’t afford to wait any longer.

Sharks are fish, not mammals… Otherwise, I agree.

I am sorry to say that I don’t exactly love sharks, but I understand how important this is to all of us. I will support this cause.

      Sincerely, Beverly Quick

I am not the type that when shark week is on the discover channel I stop everything I am doing to watch it. However I am a humanitarian, I believe in the ideology that ALL creatures under God had a right to life, sharks are NO exception. I wonder how these fisherman would like it if some shark used their ASS as their main course for soup? The barbaric attitudes of so many people DISGUST ME! They are so FAST to hurt another and NEVER placing themselves in that person or creatures shoes. Today I found a lady bug just chilling on my wall, and I took it outside and put it on a leaf, I saw a big black ant, and immediately attempted to retrieve the little guy. (the lady bug not the ant lol) if EVERYONE on this planet could find it within themselves to have this compassion, empathy, man would this world truly be a PARADISE to live in. trk387

Just another human here, wishing I could do more. In Vancouver Canada, there’s an Asian activist group, which is critical, since the demand for shark fins come from this ethnic group.
Shark finning is like all crimes against people and animals alike… It must stop.

How terrible. I hope we find a solution soon for all creatures of the earth.

I hope this passes, but protecting sharks from hunting won’t help them much if we continue to empty the oceans of their food supply.

I believe that all living thing need a fair chance to thrive in this world. Sharks need to have a place with only natural predators. When fishermen are killing them only for their fins it is such a waste and we CAN make an effort to help this cause. Thank God for Leo DiCaprio for making me aware of this worthy cause. I will let my representatives know that I care about this cause. William Gordon
